Should I give a Valentine's Day gift to someone that I just started to date? If sparks are mutually flying, go ahead and be as romantic as you feel. On the other hand, you may want to tread lightly if you're not sure where you stand. Sometimes an overly romantic gift can create awkwardness when it's not reciprocated. It's hard to go wrong with flowers or homemade cookies. Something that shows a special effort can also be a nice gesture. For example, play DJ and burn a custom CD. Is Valentine's Day strictly a romantic holiday? Absolutely not! Valentine's Day is enjoyed widely among family and friends. There are all kinds of cards and gifts that range from highly romantic and sweet, to amusing jokes or a simple expression of friendship. Grandmothers, kids and your best buddy since forever; anyone you consider special is a great candidate for a valentine. Are roses the best flowers to send? Roses are certainly the most classic, and many people are thrilled to receive them. But as with all gifts, "best" is relative to the gift recipient. Someone who loves elegance, but prefers something less traditional might prefer tulips or flowering quince. If possible, do a bit of sleuthing well in advance of the holiday. Your valentine will be very impressed when you remember their flower of choice! I feel uneasy writing "love" in my Valentine's card? - We haven't been dating long enough. Any ideas? How about: "With warmest affection" or "Hugs and Kisses".
