Not just for the Irish, a contemporary American slogan declares: "Everybody's a little bit Irish on St. Patrick's Day". While St. Patrick's Day honors the patron saint of the same name in Ireland, (and is a religious holiday) celebrations in the United States have a more secular focus. St. Patrick's Day is a day that recognizes the contributions of Irish people and Irish culture in American life. Traditions include festive parades, green beer, green attire and shamrock decorations. Here's a word of warning to those not wearing green-you may get a wee pinch!
